Design Wall, Monday April 2, 2012

Am I really ready to part with my lovely African animal prints?  I've placed them into this arrangement.
I think I may have enough to make 24 more blocks--or should I use the smaller pieces and make crumb blocks for the border for this--or should I use a black print I have for the border?  I'm not sure yet, I'll process it for awhile as I go about and do some other projects I need to complete today.

Where's the color? Kidding - I really like this a lot and may be my favorite.

When I first started quilting, I joined a local group and one of the first challenges was for African quilts. Well, I started a collection and never entered the challenge. I've made several African inspired quilts and every one of them surprises me. I love the richness of the African inspired, animal inspired and then those few actual African pieces spaced around in there. Sadly that is the last of those real African fabrics. I may or may not buy more. It's just that there are so many other things to try!

I can't stay neutral on this subject ....I think I'd stop with these blocks for the center. Use whatever fabric you have enough of for a narrow inner border, make crumb blocks for the middle border, and add another narrow (or narrow-ish) outer border.

I love it! I made an African quilt once and those fabrics are really beautiful. Love your design! Can't wait to see the end result.

These colors are just so rich and black will set them off Whatever you decide I'm sure it will be great.

They look wonderful. I usually do not like animal prints, but I love what you have done with them.

Wonderful strips. The colors (or lack of) really speak to me. Good luck with deciding on the rest. I'm not a big fan of crumb blocks... so I'd suggest borders that don't detract from the center. Have fun deciding!
