Whew! Some Finishes!

Yesterday, at the end of the day, I took a rest!  I'd finished this little number as a table topper and I'm so glad I did.

I finished it with Swirls by Pattilou  :) inspired by Swirls by Jamie

I finished the border in organic lines.
The jars of dried tomatoes are starting to line up.  After I found I couldn't give my tomatoes away and that taking them all around to friends I knew in a circumference of more than 100 miles would take awhile, I took to drying them.
and roasting them and then making a yummy sauce.
I froze gazillions of New Mexico Chilies in ice cub trays after I'd chopped them in the blender.  What took so long with that is that I don't have a lot of room in the freezer to place the trays.  But that is done and I didn't think I needed gloves to do that, as hubby had deseeded the peppers.  Wrong!  My hands were quite warm!  I tried a recipe that used tomatoes to make an enchilada sauce and then I made enchiladas for us and for our son who will have some minor surgery this week.  That sauce only took three chilies, but it was so much better than canned enchilada sauce.  I may freeze some.  Now to find ways to use these lovely dried tomatoes.  Just eating them is like eating candy!  They are sooooo darn good.  This is the first time I'd dried tomatoes and it won't be the last!

Anyhow, I just have two boxes of tomatoes left and then those on the vines.

We will celebrate the 75th anniversary by going to the movie Gone With the Wind.

Charming Stars

I joined Terry's Charming Stars Sew Along and found a set of charms languishing in a bag.  These aren't new--I've had them awhile and overbought just in case a granddaughter wanted them.  Didn't happen.  I've made two quilts from the layer cakes and now I've got these charms done for September.  At this rate it will take me until January to finish up.  I'm not in a hurry, but I do love this fabric!

I found my way over to a quilt shop today and bought more fabric for my Tula Pink's City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks  I made a few more blocks over the weekend.  I'll be posting some pictures soon.  I'm almost a quarter of the way through!  Yippee!

A Fun Week!

Not much quilty stuff going on here, but it's been a fun week.

After doing so much canning--well not as much as when the kids used to be around--but still it's taken me from my usual routine, I realized I'd been eating to much bread and sugar!  My body gives me clues--like I ache a lot!

So I pulled out my Green Smoothie Girl Detox book and I've been doing a few days of that.  Day one and two I felt the effects, but now I'm feeling so much better.  I'm not going to do the full detox, but now that I've broken the cycle of the bread and jam and too much coffee and too much sugar--peach cobbler and the like, I feel sooooo much better.  So now back on my about 80% raw diet and I'm liking myself so much better!

I've spent some days with friends, and yesterday with hubby!  Visited the chiropractor and you know if you are close to my age just doing things that didn't seem to take so long!

I have been making myself get to my sewing machine a bit and I'm back on track of working on my Tula Pink's City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks  I'm now through all the crosses.  It was the first section and I've done 15.  Now I'll work on the next section.  My stash is a bit lop sided in that I don't have the full range of colors and occasionally that has stopped the work as I don't have a LQS that is really close to me.  But my goal is to have all these blocks done by Christmas!  That way I can have something to work on at the start of the new year.

So that's all that's going on here and now I'll connect with Confessions of a Fabric Addict for a Whoop Whoop

Enjoy the weekend ahead!

Welcome Toots and Sweet!

Saturday just as we were leaving for a family get together, a box from Saudi Arabia came.  I'd been expecting it.  My Diva Dolls from Margaret Tuite came!

Welcome Toots!
My love of Kaffe Fasset personified!

Welcome Sweets!

I hope they like their new home.  I really love these girls!

Sunday while reading one of my messages, I found out that Wrap Them in Love needed some quilts--55 to be exact--and I was sewing some 3.5 inch squares into blocks.  Well, I started on a search and found some fabric that looked pretty good and ended up with this:

I emailed Ellen to see if she would quilt them for me if I sent backs and binding.  YES!  Oh how sweet!  I promptly went to work on making a back from a yard of stash:
While working on peaches and making jam in between sewing here and there I did some thinking...

this is dangerous...

I grew up in a house right next to my dad's bakery.  Our phone for many years had the same number as the bakery so it was like we were connected!
I spent the summer when I was ten going over to the bakery and slicing bread and putting it into the big machine that wrapped it in wax paper--well I didn't say I am young!  Anyhow, there were always mashed loaves of bread and we always got them!  So, as a child I learned to use up scraps and that has influenced much of my life.  I've always tried to make ends meet by doing my own canning and many times we've had our own garden.  So, as I've been trying to use up the last of my peaches...

I'm also trying to use up the last of some of my more "autumn" fabrics that I bought more than seven years ago.  Being new to quilting, I bought way more than I needed.  Well, I have earth tones in my home and I have all the earth toned things I need.

That being said, there is one big bed quilt I'm working on to use up these fabrics.  That is using 12 inch blocks.

I had some 8 inch blocks and Saturday and Sunday I used up what I could and this is where it stopped:
While sewing the border onto it yesterday, I decided to make it into a table topper for my table.  It will be big enough to take care of the need for a couple of new place mats.  (This project is #3 on my current list)

I then got into my blocks of various projects and made this top for  Wrap Them in Love  and then found the backing and the binding to go with it.

...and then this:
and added a border and found a backing for this:

This afternoon I was able to go through my stash and reorganize my remaining stash.

I'm so happy to have found a home for some blocks (now made into tops).  I can conserve my funds that I would have had to use for the batting, since I'm so nearly out and I can start quilting.

My peaches are into jam and salsa...

My kitchen counter can now be used for sandwiching and maybe, just maybe I can go to the state fair tomorrow.  I think I deserve a break!

Replacing Stash!

Fabric isn't safe around here!  I have a new supply:
I have limited amount of storage, so the old must go into
Blocks!!!!
                       and
                                        Tops!!!

Eventually all will be made into quilts, but right now, I have an island in the kitchen that I use for sandwiching my quilts and right now it's still in process of waiting for peaches to ripen so I can make that last batch of jam!

I've got two more tops this week:

And many blocks for sunshine!

The problem is, when I get into my stash, I find all kinds of goodies and then go on little side journeys into ADHD never-never-land!  But, it's been a fun week. Lots of jam for the storeroom and then tops for the quilting!

Happy Weekend!

August 350 Blocks Report

I started a block challenge with Prairie Moon Quilts.  It's been fun for me to keep track of the blocks I've made each month and then have someone tally the totals for me.  This month I completed 72 blocks!  Amazing.  (433 for the year so far.)

I started some parts that I could work on during some sew-ins as I didn't want to take my machine because the classes are held in the basements of lovely LQS.  I ventured out and found a very fun new LQS in South Salt Lake.  It is a store I would never have found on my own and I'm going to be saving money to spend there more often.  She had some fun bolts at 30% and 40% off.  I'll take my camera next month.  Thimbles & Threads  The choices are just more than I could even visit on my first time there!

So here is the top I've put together so far:

I've had to move the blocks I've been making and saving for different quilts to its new location--a big "locker"
As I've been going through my stash, I keep in mind what I might need for future Sunshine lotto blocks and then label them.

I've also started some quilts while combing my stash.  I've got some 5inch blocks started for a simple patchwork quilt.
And some greens for a 16 block, HST block quilt.

With this done, now I need to go work on a batch of peach salsa.
